We moved in!

A successful weekend two at the new house.

Saturday -

We got moved in. For this move, we decided to hire movers to help us out. We had never hired movers in the past, but it truly is worth the cost. I couldn’t recommend it more for those who are able to make it happen.

Once we got everything to the new place, we made a quick trip to Lowe’s to pick-up our new flooring that will eventually be in the formal living space, kitchen, hallways, bedrooms, and family room (no more carpet! Yay!) We’ll start with the formal living space and make our way through the house.

We had our first round of visitors come through and check out the digs. It felt so great to have a place to have family come over and explore and be close to. Looking forward to many more nights like that.

We ended the night with a little late night electrical work. Steven’s going to be a pro electrician before this project is all over. The casing for the plug where the refrigerator goes in needed to be replaced. Took a couple of tries and we learned that there is apparently a difference between electrical casings for new construction and remodel projects. Who knew?!

While we wait for the blinds to show up, it’s definitely a bit unnerving to sleep with no window coverings. Saturday night, Steven built up some boxes in front of the bedroom windows to help me relax enough to get some sleep.

Sunday -

Cleaning sucks. I spent the day on Sunday cleaning the apartment in Oakland to wrap things up there. What I thought might take a couple of hours ended up taking all day. I severely underestimated the amount of time it takes to wipe down baseboards and mop floors.

Steven spent the day working on installing a new garage door opener and other small projects around the house. Another late night of hard work.

This week -

We’re officially done with the Oakland apartment and no longer renters!

We finally got our refrigerator hooked up and our main TV connected in the living room (this was important!) We’re both exhausted for all the weekend work and not getting caught up on sleep during the week, but we’re having fun with it! :) The commute has been pretty decent, as expected. Thank goodness for the carpool lanes!

What’s Next?

The goal for this weekend is to get the laundry room tile done and get the boxes throughout the house organized so we can feel a little more settled. We won’t be unpacking too much right away since we’ll be doing work throughout the house but really want to get a bit more organization and handle over where things are. We need to get some updated outdoor lighting and change out the ceiling fans and chandeliers inside the house. Hopefully we’ll get some of those done this weekend, too.

Chloe’s Corner -

Since Chloe is the most important part of our family, we wanted to have a focus on here each blog post. She’s slowly acclimating to the new house. We have a great walking path around the large block (about .70 miles) that we do each morning and evening. She’s gotten lots of visits from grandparents taking her on walks during the day and she’s finally resting better at night.

She seems to be doing pretty well when we’re not home. Though, she has discovered that she can look at the living room window while we’re leaving and make us feel bad for leaving her there. Sneaky little girl.
